1/11Dedication and Introduction
Zusammenfassung
Winnie-the-Pooh is a book of children's stories by A. A. Milne, published in 1926 with drawings by E. H. Shepard. Milne based the characters on the stuffed toys that belonged to his young son, Christopher Robin, who appears in the book under his own name as the boy at the centre of this small world.
The book is made up of ten linked chapters, framed as tales told by a father to his son. Each one follows Pooh, a cheerful bear of little brain and large appetite, through a modest adventure in the Hundred Acre Wood. He tries to reach honey by floating up to a bees' nest under a balloon, eats so much at Rabbit's house that he gets stuck in the doorway, sets out on an "expotition" to the North Pole, and joins the hunt for a mysterious creature by following his own footprints. Along the way readers meet timid Piglet, gloomy Eeyore, bossy Rabbit, self-important Owl, and Kanga with baby Roo.
The stories are short and funny, built on wordplay, misunderstandings and the comic logic of very small animals, yet they also show warmth and loyalty between friends. They read aloud especially well, appealing to young children through the adventures and to adults through Milne's dry humour. The characters returned in The House at Pooh Corner in 1928.
