Isaac Asimov  :  Foundation  (1973)

Radio Serial in 8 Parts, adapted from the science fiction trilogy by Isaac Asimov.

This radio drama serialises the novels Foundation, Foundation and Empire, and Second Foundation -- with the assistance of electronic music and sound effects provided by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

The scientist Hari Seldon has predicted the fall of the Galactic Empire and the collapse of civilisation into 30,000 years of barbarism. In order to restore that civilisation within a "mere" thousand years, he establishes two Foundations at opposite ends of the galaxy, which will work together using a new science, the science of psycho-history, to manipulate the future...

By forcing history into a new course, through a series of crises, Seldon's plan will enable the Foundation to form the core of a new Galactic Empire.

Seldon's first step is to establish a planetary base in a safe location, where work can begin on creating the Encyclopedia Galactica, which will store all the scientific knowledge of the old Empire, so that science will not die out when the Empire falls.

But to do so he must overcome all the power of the Galactic Empire, whose rulers do not take kindly to the prediction of its imminent collapse!
