A sazandar (Armenian սազանդար) is an Armenian folk musician. A typical sazandari ensemble can be seen on this postcard. The typical instruments are all originally derived from Persia, the tar (a plucked, long-necked and waisted string instrument), the kamancheh (a bowed string instrument), and the daf (a large frame drum).

Kars is a mountain city in Eastern Anatolia that between 1878 and 1918 temporarily belonged to Imperial Russia, which conquered the region in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. Kars is home to a characteristic type of folk dance (photo).
