For more than a year, The Morning Show has been consistently covering the terrible plight of the tenants at 83-85 Bowery. These mostly Chinese and working-class residents have been put through the ringer by a slumlord who bought the buildings--which are predominantly rent-stabilized--thinking he’d be able to easily and quickly evict them, with the goal of charging higher rents. However, the courts in particular have consistently gotten in his way. Ultimately, the landlord realized he couldn’t win and struck an agreement in July, with a target date of August 31 to permit them to return to their homes. Unfortunately, the city government of Bill de Blasio made the situation so much worse, having mostly ignored what occurred or by being actively involved in displacement of the residents. So, what is the status of things?  With me is Zishun Ning, an organizer at the Chinese Staff and Workers Association and a member of Youth Against Displacement.
