IUMA: Brilliant Sins

Kim Andrew and Darren Edwards have created a band that combines the visceral energy and arrogance of the bands that excite them - Iggy Pop, the Who, and the Sex Pistols ? with the grooves and pop sensibilities of artists like T. Rex and David Bowie. Their contemporary influences derive from a blend of Garbage and Hole, merging with the powerful and artistic lyrics of U2, the Smiths and the Manic Street Preachers. Through their energy, beat and attitude, they have single handedly defined the term "arrogant pop music."

For those of you interested in knowing more, here is where the story began:

The place Cardiff, Wales (UK). Darren was an outstanding drummer in a well-known London band. Kim and him met at a bar in Cardiff and became friends.

Darren's band came to the U.S., gigging everywhere from CBGBs in New York to the Whiskey in Los Angeles and made a feature film appearance as a motorcycle gang in the 1992 cult classic, "Highway to Hell." Following the filming, the band split up, but his earnings from "Highway to Hell" enabled Darren to set up life in Los Angeles.

After a while, Kim visited L.A. and ended up staying. Darren learned a few guitar chords and soon after the idea of Brilliant Sins was born.

Using friends on bass and drums, Kim and Darren started gigging around L.A. After just a couple of shows, it was apparent that Kim was a fantastic performer with total star presence. Laughs Darren, "It was really funny because people thought she'd been doing this forever, when actually she'd never even held a microphone before Brilliant Sins."

Soon, the band had garnered an impressive collection of hot reviews and write ups from the local Los Angeles press, and caught the attention of screenwriter/director Joe Eszterhas ("Basic Instinct," "Show Girls") who chose the band's "I'd Rather Be A Porn Star" from over 9,200 songs to appear on his controversial movie, "An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn." Shortly after, they caught the eye and ear of successful music attorney Jonathan Blaufarb of Bloom, Hergott, Cook, Diermer and Klein, LLP (represents the likes of the Black Crowes, System of a Down, Lynard Skynard, Rick James, etc.) and he is currently opening a few doors for Brilliant Sins.

Brilliant Sins has never veered too far away from it's original plan: energy, guitar, swagger, superiority and great lyrics!
