Remember Thee

Maria pur quando vuol, non è bisogna mutar ni faccia ni voce per esser un Angelo.[1]
Die when you will, you need not wear
At Heaven's Court a form more fair
Than Beauty here on earth has given;
Keep but the lovely looks we see—
The voice we hear—and you will be
An angel ready-made for Heaven!
[1] The words addressed by Lord Herbert of Cherbury to the beautiful Nun at Murano.—See his Life.
О книге
LibriVox volunteers bring you 13 recordings of Remember Thee by Thomas Moore. This was the Weekly Poetry project for January 17, 2021. ------ Thomas Moore was an Irish writer, poet and lyricist celebrated for his Irish Melodies. Their setting of English-language verse to old Irish tunes marked the transition in popular Irish culture from Irish to English. Moore is often considered Ireland's national bard and is to Ireland what Robert Burns is to Scotland. ( Wikipedia )
