The Musical Masterpiece Society is the European branch of the American-based Concert Hall Society. It was a mail order company where one could order records by subscription. The history of this label, affiliated with the American Concert Hall label founded by David and Sam Josefowitz, can be found here.

The label was not allowed to use the word Masterworks, because Columbia already released a Masterworks Series. Therefore the word Masterworks was changed to Masterpiece.

André Vandernoot (Brussels, 02.06.1927 - Brussels, 06.11.1991): Belgian conductor. Studied at the conservatories of Brussels and Vienna.

1959-1973: conductor and artistic director of Théâtre de la Monnaie, Brussels

1974-1975: artistic director of the Belgian National Orchestra

1975-1983: chief conductor of deFilharmonie (Antwerp)

1978-1979: conductor North Philharmonic Orchestra (Haarlem)

1979-1989: chief conductor RTBF Symphony Orchestra

During the '80s he was also chief conductor of the Brabants Orkest (Tilburg).
