Silver City sprang up out of the Owyhee Mountains when silver and gold was discovered there in the 1860s. For nearly three decades it thrived as one of the biggest mountain mining towns in southern Idaho. When the precious metals dried up, the people moved out and by World War 2 it was all but abandoned.
