Razorcake Podcast #60: With Todd Taylor

I tend to use these song selections as an audio postcard of what great stuff has come my way in the past couple of months that I’ve either reviewed or ordered through mailorder. It’s important to me that I don’t forget. I don’t want to let those memories get erased too easily. And, as it’s apt to happen, those songs remind me of older songs, so I flip through my collection and pull out a couple of favorites.

Music’s such a part of my life that I constantly use it as a lens, much like my glasses. My good friend Jeff Fox married an awesome lady, Meagan. Just because when I hang out with Jeff, who’s from Philly, it’s inevitable that we’ll start talking about music from that area. That’s where the Flag Of Democracy and Crimson Ghosts tracks come from. I’m hoping that Jeff will do an old Philly podcast with us in the near future. Electric Love Muffin rip and it’d do people good to hear ‘em.

And that got me to thinking about a large problem I have with most punk rock survey books—they’re too often the same cast of characters, many of them good—but there are and were hundreds of other bands that are just as good, if not better, that consistently fall through the cracks. I feel like I lived in those cracks for twenty years. So, here’s to not forgetting and not establishing a small group of idols to love or revile, but to a greater, organic, ever-developing appreciation for DIY punk music as a whole.
