The anonymous music-project "Muzak for Cages" started in 1980, when "Die Musik aus der Magnolienfabrik" was recorded on cassettes, compiled as "Demos". These recordings were more a kind of "Music for Tape", not intended for reproduction live on stage. That was not the desired output, a record company dreamed of and when Muazk For Cages finally convinced first "Erdenklang" and later "Fünfundvierzig", both independet labels in Germany at the time, it didn't lead to more than a single product with each one.

Not only were Muzak For Cages no Boyband, they were stubborn to the core and their musical interests included hypnotic music, minimal music, industrial, synth-pop, kraut-rock, experimental sounds, ensemble music and soundtracks. From a sales point of view, their esoteric concept of 'the soul being trapped here on earth in a heavy body-prison', didn't help either. So Muzak For Cages decided to stay anonymus and build their catalogue in privacy.

Before 2020 the time came for Muzak For Cages to compile their music as well as side-projects to a proper discography. With the help of Musikverbot, they remixed and remastered all the music they wanted to publicise and since then, they gave music from 1984 'til now to the "Internet Archive", exactly the way they want it to be.

There was only one thing missing: vinyl. Muzak For Cages think that music-files are real, but vinyl-records are little bit more real. Since nowaydays everybody seems to make vinyl versions of anything, there's no reason why Muzak For Cages shouldn't be up to date for once in their "career", by adding this "young person's guide to Muzak For Cages" to all of this.
