About

Intervention Day was a day-long sci-fi April Fools Day promotion that ran on KBCO, Boulder, biennially from 1979-1991.  It cast the entire station 50 years into the future for a day, including spots, promos, features, news, and DJ banter.  These productions were fun and thought-provoking and hugely successful, as evidenced by the station's willingness to ditch a full day of real advertising for the concept so many times.

By the time of the 1987 performance -- run on-air from 6:00am to 8:00pm on April 1st, 1987 -- the core KBCO air staff had run the live aspect of it three times, and everyone nailed this edition.  It won the International Radio Festival of New York's Grand Award for Entertainment Programming in 1988.

Now, you can enjoy a radio experience few outside of the Denver-Boulder area have had. Everyone brought their best musically, so aside from all the festivities, it was a great day of music, 1987 style, from a great radio station.  If you start this at 6am and let it run through the day, even its metric time system will make sense.  April 1st was its run date, but really, any day will do.  It will warp time.
