Cora Weiss Comments: Mary Ann Marne, Scholarship Search

This episode of Cora Weiss Comments on the 7th of October, 1974, interviews Mary Ann Marne about her ‘Scholarship Search’ program, which helps students find financial aid for college. Marne discusses the application process for scholarships, and why her program is a necessity, since many scholarships go unused because people do not know how to access them. She details how her program uses a computer system to match students with scholarships for which they meet the criteria. The cost of a modern college education is also discussed, alongside class issues when applying to college, such as middle-class families not qualifying for federal aid, but not being able to finance tuition costs independently either. Finally, the US education system is compared to ones abroad, before a recap of the program is provided.
