Dharma talk given by Bhante Seelawimala at the Sacramento Buddhist Meditation Group.

Bhante Seelawimala is a Theravada Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka, who was ordained in 1957. He majored in Buddhist Philosophy at the University of Sri Lanka and speaks Pali, the language in which the original Buddhist texts were written. Since 1976 he has been teaching Buddhism at the graduate level to Western students at the Institute of Buddhist Studies in Berkeley. He was instrumental in establishing Theravada centers in Toronto, Vancouver, Atlanta, San Jose, and West Sacramento and continues to serve those communities. In 1967 Bhante's teacher started the first Theravada Buddhist center in North America. Bhante emphasizes Vipassana (Insight) meditation as an essential part of Buddhist practice.
