A major mistake in state identity has the 2015 graduating class of Kelso High School holding diplomas with a big problem. Kelso High School's in the state of Washington, and has been ever since it was incorporated in 1889, the same year Washington became our 42nd state. That's the Washington State song playing now, \Washington My Home.\ But when the Kelso High School seniors accepted their hard earned diplomas at graduation Saturday night at Kelso High School, in Washington state, they discovered, much to their surprise, that the diploma covers had the state seal of Oregon imprinted in silver above the name of Kelso High School, written in gold. And as anyone with a high school education in Washington state can tell you, that's just not right. Kelso school superintendent Glenn Gelbrich didn't say who made the mistake, but he did say the mistake was an ordering error. Nobody noticed the gigantic geographic goof until after the graduation ceremony began. By then, it was too late, and a sad state of affairs. But as the words in the Washington state song say; \Small towns and cities rest here in the sun, Filled with our laughter, \Thy will be done.\ And so here's what will be done for Kelso High School. The diplomas are still valid, even if the covers are still wrong. The seniors'll get new diploma covers, with the right state seal, to go along with a graduation story that they can tell for many, many years to come. I'm Ron Brown. You're listening to Rivet.
