In 1937 Hans Martin Theopold was appointed professor of piano at the Bavarian State Conservatoire in Würzburg but continued to appear as a member of the Berlin State Opera Chamber Music Society; during a concert at Berlin’s Singakademie on 16 November 1938 (for the Bußtag or Repentance Day holiday), Theopold, Kniestädt and fellow-members performed the Quintet alongside Schubert’s Octet and Rondo in b minor
