Nash and his wife Alicia were in taxi when their driver lost control while passing another car and the taxi crashed into a guard rail on the New Jersey turnpike.

Russell Crowe played Nash in the movie. Nash in this interview with Al Jazeera in 2009 says although he disagrees with the movie's depiction of him it did help show that people with mental illness can still accomplish great things. . .

For Nash that positive was his winning the Nobel Prize for economics in 1994. . .

Police say it doesn't appear the Nashes were wearing seatbelts.

Nash's wife was his caretaker while he wrestled with mental illness...they'd been married for almost sixty years.
