In The News: It's the 60th anniversary of the US attack on Hiroshima. 4,133 Americans are now dead due to the invasion of Iraq and the Iraqi economy has developed an $80 billion net surplus from their oil assets(still mostly undeliverable assets), meanwhile the US is paying 46 billion for reconstruction. According to a book by Ron Suskind the White House ordered a forged letter from the CIA attributable to Saddam Hussein and his Chief of Intelligence which would have shown an al-Qaeda/911 hijackers connection to Iraq. President Bush denies it, but the letter exists. Freddie Mac, one of the quasi-private mortgage re-issuers/re-insurers recently 'bailed out' by the legislature lost 4x as much money as had been estimated. There has been an army coup in Mauritania, just South of Morocco which has captured the President and Prime Minister. A verdict has been reached in the Guantanamo "Osama's Driver" trial.

Military jurors on Wednesday found Osama bin Laden's former driver guilty of providing material support to terrorism in the first US war crimes trial since World War II. But the jury found Salim Hamdan not guilty on a count of conspiracy, in the first case before the special tribunals created by President George W. Bush to try suspects in the "war on terror."
