Giới thiệu

The Myth of Sisyphus is a philosophical essay by Albert Camus, first published in 1942. In this work, Camus explores the concept of the absurd, the conflict between humans’ desire to find inherent meaning in life and the silent, indifferent universe that offers none. The essay opens with Camus’ famous assertion that “there is but one truly serious philosophical problem, and that is suicide.” He examines whether life is worth living in a world devoid of purpose.

Camus uses the Greek myth of Sisyphus as a metaphor for the human condition. Sisyphus, condemned by the gods to eternally roll a boulder up a hill only for it to roll back down each time he reaches the summit, becomes a symbol of futile labor and existential perseverance. Camus argues that, despite the absurdity of his task, Sisyphus defies his fate by embracing his struggle and finding meaning in the act of pushing the boulder.

In this exploration, Camus develops his philosophy of absurdism, which acknowledges the lack of meaning in life but rejects nihilism. Instead, it proposes a life lived with passion, full engagement, and a defiant attitude towards the absurd. The Myth of Sisyphus encourages readers to accept the absurdity of existence and to live with authenticity and courage, finding their own meaning and joy in the journey itself.
