Coffee talk #9 Community art practices as a drier to safeguard cultural heritage: what role for artists, citizens and authorities?

The Faro Network will participate in the International Community Arts Festival, Rotterdam from March 29 until April 2 2023. In preparation, our 9th Coffee talk is an exchange of practices from Marseille, Bordeaux, La Rioja, and Novi Sad that will be presented in a public session during ICAF 2023 in which we can understand the dynamics of how a community art approach can be effective to empower citizens in preserving, valuing and managing their cultural heritage, actually a major goal of the Faro Convention.

Key questions proposed for the ICAF public deliberation include:

(1) how artistic action can be more than bubbles but contribute to safeguard “unheard” cultural heritage;

(2) how to combine artistic freedom of expression with a community desire to preserve the intrinsic cultural heritage;

(3) how to balance the respective roles devoted to the artist and to the community in preserving the cultural heritage; and

(4) how to convince decision makers of the pertinence to support such innovative approach to promote more largely cultural rights.
