HICKORY DICKORY DOCK

A broken music box – record player for children working slowly. Wind up the mechanism is not enough to hear a melody. Some notes sound sometimes. The points of the used plastic disc block the tonearm where are the metal plates. This sound object for slowed listening is enveloped by Czech bird songs recorded in 1960, Russian radio waves and the voice of yuri Gagarin, ready to lift off.

Julia invents poetic itineraries as soundwalk, radiophonic creation or performance on specific sites, especially abandoned buildings, through found sounds and fetish objects. After a year immersed in Orthodox Greece practices and ex-voto, she started to compose sound ambulation from air, dust, print and haunting captation. Some times, she prints a graphic score from the soundscape shape. She is interested in the art of walking, especially in sound art, and obtained a PhD with honors in 2011 at the University of Paris 8, France. She field-recorded a 5 months journey in France, Japan, Australia and Korea, walking in unknown landscapes, questioning langage and tradition. Her composition Japan Breakfast : Le Héron Blanc was broadcasted on France Culture in 2011. She curates the international «Radiophonic Creation Day», 24 hours of radio art, 100 artists, broadcast in 57 radios/galleries, and an electronic and electroacoustic festival in Burgundy, France, Kontact sonoreS.
