In this guide, I take you through what it's like to hike the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim—not once, but twice—on the two most popular routes. First, we go from the South Rim via the South Kaibab Trail, across the Colorado River, and up the North Kaibab Trail to the North Rim. Then I flip it and hike back from the North Rim down the North Kaibab and up Bright Angel to the South Rim. I break down each leg with practical tips, highlight the landmarks, and show you the terrain so you know exactly what to expect before you commit to this epic trek.
This video isn’t a deep dive into planning or logistics—that info lives on hikingguy.com where I keep everything updated. Instead, I focus on giving you a detailed trail preview, including scenery, facilities, water stops, and what it's actually like to hike each section. Whether you're considering a multi-day trip or knocking it out in one push, this walkthrough should help you mentally break it into segments and get a feel for the effort involved.
I also share tips on handling steep sections, what parts are more exposed, and where you’ll get a break on the terrain. Plus, I call out popular spots like Phantom Ranch, Ribbon Falls, Cottonwood Campground, and Indian Garden so you can plan breaks or overnights. If you’re nervous about heights or conditions, I’ve created 360° videos for each leg to help you preview the trail more immersively—links are in the description.
If you're thinking about doing this hike, be sure to check the gear and maps I recommend (including the National Geographic map), and don’t skip the prep—this is one of those bucket list hikes that demands solid planning. I’ve done it multiple times and can tell you firsthand: it’s challenging, but 100% worth it.
