Notes
Circa 1943-44 red vinyl 16" World Program Service 33 1/3 rpm electrical “WBS” transcription (as once distributed to subscribing US stations for "radio broadcasting only"). Electrical transcriptions - made since around 1930 - predate normal LPs before running in tandem from 1948, but as always with mainly different performances from those of the conventional LPs 45s and 78s that were prohibited for radio broadcast. In fact the disinclination to use 78s was as much for technical and legal reasons (another explanation for some of these electrical transcriptions being vertical cut, and in very early vinyl instead of shellac as a difference to suit broadcasting).
A more accurate date for the release and recording sessions will be confirmed later once researched. NOTE: RIGHTS ORGS IN BRACKETS, &/or (PD).
The recording details for the Duke Ellington side according to Jepsen 1967 were: recorded in NYC, Nov 8, 1943 (to be double-checked with other sources). This was that artist’s first session under the WBS. The earlier half of this same session is on a neighbouring electrical transcription (qv), some of which was used for two V-Discs.
Details for the Ginsburgh sides or session/s will hopefully follow later.
[* a collector’s audio/visual (A/V) presentation of the My 78s song of interest [i.e. ‘Star Dust’] track 3 on side B (on asterisked song) using ‘non-AI waveform repairs’ - MAY BE ADDED IN DUE COURSE.
Both these digitisations were made during the week. For all the audio files that are corrected for listening: refer as suffixed. This was possible after having to invert one of the channels first (the right channel for this particular instance using Audacity software) because of the disc being cut vertical and therefore not of lateral modulation; the compromise being perhaps a slight drop in generation of copy to obtain customary syncronised waveforms rather than the mirrored waveforms created by stereo styli on vertical cut discs.
The rawer state will serve as the main archive copy remaining uncorrected as a WAVE (with a non-inverted channel a drawback to accept from using modern day stereo styli on vertical cut discs), but with no mp3 derived.
This disc was in eventual Very Good condition for play throughout.]
