Jeremy Robinson - Bio
Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, Kensington Market is a colourful tapestry of second hand clothing stores, fruit markets and immigrant owned shops selling exotic food from around the world. It's one of the most culturally vibrant neighborhoods in Canada and home to singer-songwriter Jeremy Robinson.
Several blocks to the south lie the city's music scene on Queen St West, where Jeremy has built a loyal following over the course of 3 albums. Jeremy is a former resident of the fabled Cameron house, one of Queen St.'s most eclectic and vital music venues (it also serves as a rooming house) where he still maintains a rehearsal space.
Jeremy's formative musical life was spent in Halifax, where he attended University in the early '90s, while the local scene came to international prominence. Jeremy was one of the few singer-songwriters playing alternative clubs at the time and stood out against the landscape of grunge bands that seemed to have formed over night. His tenure in Halifax culminated with a slot opening for Sara Mclachlan on her Solace tour and a debut CD in rotation on the city's premier rock station.
Returning to his native Toronto in 1993, Jeremy became involved with some of the city's most distinguished musicians, including Jason Mercer (Ani Difranco), Paul Brennan (Big Sugar, The Odds) and Kurt Swinghammer (Ron Sexsmith), who produced Jeremy's 3rd album, Good and Gone.
Jeremy's music incorporates experimental pop and rock influences. Though soft and reflective at times, it is not easy listening. His aim is to consistently challenge and engage the listener, exploring themes of self-doubt, loss and redemption without falling prey to self pity. Like the stories of Flannery O'Connor, Jeremy's music is a reflection of a deep faith.
Jeremy's acclaimed live performances showcase the talents of a stellar band, often drawing comparisons to artists such as Jeff Buckley and Radiohead for their emotional intensity.
