earthsea is a duo playing powerful, dynamic rock with a progressive flavour. earthsea uses electric and acoustic guitars and mandolin, flute, drums, keyboards, bass module, sequencing software and a PC to deliver its distinctive sound. earthsea has been writing, recording and performing in Tasmania, Australia since 1989. earthsea's all-original music is powerful, dynamic and inspiring. There are many melodic influences from ancient to modern music, and a blend of philosophy and vision in the lyrics.

Andrew Jones (guitar/vocals/mandolin) and Geoff Sharp (drums/keyboards) live and work in Central Tasmania, Australia: an environment which compliments and inspires their music. Despite the isolation of Tasmania, both Andrew and Geoff believe that their music will become known across the world, thanks to the Internet.

Andrew and Geoff have many years of musical experience, both playing in many bands and writing original music. earthsea's music demonstrates the strong songwriting and arrangment skills of the band. earthsea uses modern technology to produce its sound - acoustic and electric stringed instruments, keyboards, computer software and drums.

earthsea's music is challenging and demanding, both of its creators and its listeners. earthsea's music is an experience - the band aims to capture the energy and power of its live performance on cd. An earthsea performance is quite awesome, as the many people who have seen earthsea over the years will attest.

It is difficult to categorise earthsea - 'progressive' generally describes the music, but earthsea's music is new: earthsea freely acknowledges its influences, but the music has its own unique sound, and the band its own unique image.

earthsea focuses upon generating an active listening experience from recording, as it is in performance that earthsea is at its most powerful and dynamic. earthsea is progressive in the interpretation it places upon music - it is never complacent, for every song has a raison d'etre which is integral. In short, progressive music is that which boldly embraces/defines new ideas, with an insistent urge to continuously move forward. It is music which refuses to become sterile, and as a result it becomes perched on the edge at all times.
