The selfie is everywhere â Facebook, Instagram, Twitter â and soon your bank could be asking for one in order to approve your purchase or credit card application. Your bank could soon ask for a selfie in order to approve your purchase or credit card application.Visa's launching a platform to allow banks to integrate various types of biometrics â things like your fingerprint, face and voice â into the approval process.Visa itself isn't storing any of the biometrics, itâs providing a connection between the bank and biometric technology companies.Consumers could experience Visaâs new platform in a couple different ways.If a person were to apply for a credit card application on their smartphone, the bank app could ask the applicant to take a selfie and then take a picture of a driverâs license or passport.The technology will then compare the photos for facial similarities as well as check the validity of the driverâs license, all happening within seconds.Banks wonât be integrating Visaâs platform immediately, just like it took a couple years for chip cards to be fully introduced.But experts say we should expect to see more forms of biometric authentication in the coming years.For the AP, I'm CM with Rivet.
