Some of the tracks are your typical lo-fi fare with a guitar/piano playing a simple variation on one of the leitmotifs from the film soundtracks, others have more elaborate instrumental sections and deviate a little from what you’d expect when considering the lo-fi/chillhop genre; less emphasis on percussion and repetition, more emphasis on melody and musical ornamentation.

When it came to the mixdown I decided to go for a warm, gentle sound without much sidechaining. The idea was that it’d be evocative of a well worn cassette tape from the 90s, back when the events of the Harry Potter books took place. Messing around with the instrumentation was fun too - lots of harpsichords, celestas, recorders, etc. In terms of genre I wanted the album to have a recognisable but slightly unusual sound in the same way that Rowling’s wizarding world is both familiar and foreign at the same time.
