Well, this video essay was supposed to be about Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, but instead it ended up tackling the question of why IMAX beat 3D, and is becoming an increasingly powerful creative tool.

Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay, JJ Abrams, James Cameron, the Mission Impossible and James Bond movies all use 70mm IMAX film to create astounding visuals that provide the ultimate immersive experience – a stark contrast from the dying fad that is 3D.
