Video: The Gibb River Road Part 4 | Bell Gorge to Windjana Gorge | Episdoe 43

We're back for The Gibb River Road Part 4, our final episode for our journey across the Kimberley on this epic road trip.

In this episode, we set off from our camp just near Adcock gorge and head to a fantastic little free camp at Dog Chain Creek (which is a lot nicer than it sounds)

After an action-packed couple of days, we decided it was a great place to chill out and relax and have a swim.

We left the van at Dog Chain Creek and back-tracked a little on the Gibb back to Bell Gorge.

Bell River was a fun, scenic walk leading down a mostly dry creek bed and to the top of the falls. The top of the falls has some significant swimming areas and sandy spots for the kids to have a play. The hike up to this point is pretty flat and easygoing but gets more challenging.

After crossing the creek, we set off to trek into the gorge and the falls' bottom pool. This more challenging but reasonably short hike section rewarded us with beautiful swimming shaded by the gorge wall. Watch out for the slippery rocks, though!

The following day it was back onto the Gibb River Road and west to Windjana gorge.

The incredible ancient limestone range that makes up the gorge walls was, in fact, a reef some 350 million years ago! We spent some time hunting for fossilised remnants of this prehistoric wonderland.

After spotting a couple of fossils and finding the famous Windjana Gorge freshwater crocodiles, the endless swarms of March flies won us over. We made the call to return to the car's safety after a kilometre or so.
