Here's a video that YouTube subscriber @NVLE5 requested. They want to know how to adjust for English for the shots that he's aiming. So, we'll review the basic principles of actively using English.
To do this, you'll ideally want to have some sort of marker at the far end of the table, at the center. I like a align a piece of chalk directly behind the diamond center diamond. Next, you'll want to put your cue ball on the center of the table.
You're going to have to adjust this technique based on your own stroke (which is different for everybody). This is a good of demonstrating how to adjust your aiming for English. Since the shaft depends on your English, the cue ball depends on your English, pretty much every aspect depends on your English, you'll want to take your time to adjust to your particular cue.
If, for this example shot, I'm going to use Right English and I''m trying to aim straight at my marker that I set, I'm going to do a parallel shift. I'm going to aim for the center of the cue ball and do a parallel shift over. When I take my shot, I'll see that my shot goes off to the left.
However much that went off to the left, I just need to aim that much over. So, for that last shot, it went off by about a half inch. My next shot, I'll just aim that half inch over. I'll aim over a half inch, take my shot and it will hit my marker perfectly dead-on. The coolest thing about this is that it works with ANY kind of English.
It's important to remember that every time you take that shot, whether it's slow, medium or hard, it will change the English. You'll need to figure out exactly how much it changes it. If your budget allows, you can upgrade your shaft to a low deflection shaft which will take a lot of the guesswork out of it. Until then, keep using the technique described and you'll definitely see an improvement in your game.
