Farewell, Refused - the Swedish punk icons spent 2025 trekking the world on a farewell tour, with a run at the Good Things festival in Australia their final shows outside of their native country. But before the festival, they booked in for a sideshow in Melbourne's north, and despite being more familiar with their reputation than their work (I've heard The Shape of Punk to Come, of course, but that was when I was in high school) I figured I had nothing to lose by attending.

And I was right, they're a pretty great band who will be dearly missed. Anyone who opens a farewell set with a six-minute long B-side has to be cool, and the setlist swung between the hits from their big record and "songs from the records people don't like", as Dennis admitted to the crowd during one of his frequent speeches. It's wonderful seeing a band that's still so committed to fighting for their beliefs for a better world (although I did laugh at the endless stream of roadies running on-stage to reattach the Palestinian flag they had on the amps; the heat of the venue was melting the tape), and doing it through some really impressive punk rock - the three band members are dialled in on each other so well that it was kind of breathtaking; it felt like they were flowing and feeling it out live and yet simultaneously in total control. A great Thursday night out and a fitting sendoff to an important band.
