Protégés of legendary post-rock guitarist David Pajo, A Broken Sail have started to make a name for themselves as a go-to support band for touring bands of this genre - they travelled around with June of 44 when they returned to Australia recently, and have now been playing support for Codeine's premiere tour in this country. They recorded their debut (and currently only) album all the way back in 2018, and so I don't know if the songs they've been playing are new or from that (have you ever tried to identify the tracks on a post-rock bootleg with a band you're not familiar with?); what I do know is that they're pretty solid work from a guitar/bass/drums trio, with lots of atmospheric reverb floating around during and between songs and a steady sense of progression. There were a couple of sound issues at this show, with a roadie having to jump on stage and tinker with the bass during the first two songs - hopefully next time I see them it's with a functioning sound system.
