Young, Lester - Blue Star (Aladdin) 1945-47 - Audiolibro Gratis

One of my Jazz heroes is Lester Young (27.08.1909 - 15.03.1959): American tenor saxophonist (and occasional clarinetist). Played in the orchestras of Count Basie, Fletcher Henderson and Andy Kirk, and also played a lot in smaller combos. recorded beautiful shots co-accompaniing Billie Holiday, who called him "Pres" (President), he called her "Lady Day".

In 1944 he was enlisted, was imprisoned for a year for possession of marijuana and alcohol.

After the war he was part of Jazz at the Philharmonic (Norman Granz) for 12 years and made many studio recordings, including these Aladdin recordings from 1945-1947, released here on the French Blue Star label.

Finally his alcohol addiction killed him and he died in 1959, aged 49. Four months later, Billie Holiday died, aged 44.
