It has rained every day while we have been in Tana Toraja, except for today! Lucky us! We are leaving the city behind and heading to rural Sulawesi. Our plan is to travel from Indonesian village to village hiking along one-lane paved roads, dirt roads, and even cutting through the rice fields. The sun is shining and the skies are a magnificent blue. As one of our subscribers reminded us, Tana Toraja is more than just death rituals! Join us on this hiking adventure through rural Sulawesi. On this adventure, we encounter water buffalos, traditional Torajan homes (tongkonan), school children, and many families. We only lost one child on this hike, almost, to quicksand (well, a very deep mud puddle). Watch to the end to hear what happened.

WHO WE ARE: We are the Travel Hacking Teachers: Jonathan and Kelly with our three children. Seven years ago, we sold our home in Alaska, USA, and headed overseas. We are teachers and found fantastic teaching positions in India. Two years later, we moved to the United Arab Emirates. Three years after that, during the beginning of the pandemic, we made the move to our current teaching jobs in Indonesia. We love traveling and finding adventures as a family.
