Downright Dencey (Dramatic Reading)
1/49Preface and BOOK ONE: Chapter 1 - Dionis Throws the Stone
About
Dencey Coffyn grows up as a Quaker during Nantucket’s whaling days in the early 1800s. Full of heart, with an adventurous spirit that can find trouble easily, she works hard to make amends for the stones she cast at Sammie Jetsam. Dencey has a deep respect for her strict mother and a heart-filling love for her often absent ship’s-captain father. Dencey’s and Sam’s various adventures introduce us to other Quaker personalities, the Nantucket Quaker culture, and fun community events that were a mainstay at that time. Downright Dencey is a 1928 Newbery Honor book. - Summary by Lynette Caulkins Cast: Narrator: Lynette Caulkins Dencey Coffin: ShrimpPhish Sammie Jetsam: Inkell Lydia Coffin: Winnifred Assmann Tom Coffyn: Jim Hedrick Hopestill: Joy Dunne Aunt Lovesta: Jenn Broda Peggy: Grace Silvey Jill Orkorwaw: MJ Franck Bob Merrill: favorezeanuna Bob Severance and Fragmenter Schoolboy 2: Petra Elphinstone Elkanah Severance and Fragmenter Schoolboy 3: Mark Jacobi Steve Severance: Zack Martin Gideon Wippy and Coffin Schoolboy 3: Gary Polum Liza Anne: Jessie Percival Housewife: MamaPhish Harbor Crier: ARodrigo Martha White: Sonalie Ekka Miss Debby: Rachel Whitehorn Beppo: Waffle Caleb Severance and Professor Snubshoe: Todd Grandmother: Diane Old Captain Parker: Robert Cherny Mrs. Runnel: StaceyM William Williams: David Purdy Old Selah and Hedassah: Larry Wilson Barna Severance: Munchie Captain Worth, Yankee, Steven Grellet, Uncle, and Old Mr. Joy: Wayne Cooke Old Mrs. Joy: Penny Carrington Liakim Cole: Beeswaxcandle Aunt Susanna: Agnes Robert Behr Aunt Mitty and Portuguese Mother: Cyndajm Dicky Dicks: Scott Caulkins Ariel: Oliver Audio edited by: Lynette and Scott Caulkins
