About
This is part of the Mary A. Dooley Lecture Series in Religious Studies, which were held by Elms College (aka The College of Our Lady of the Elms) in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The lecture series began in 1986 with the topic of Vatican II: Twenty Years Later. Sr. Mary A. Dooley was the sixth President of Elms College, serving in that capacity from 1979-1994. The lecture series topic for 1990-1991 was Envisioning the Church of Tomorrow, Today. This particular lecture, by Most Reverend Thomas Dupre (Thomas Ludger Dupre), who was the Auxiliary Bishop of Springfield (Diocese of Springfield, Massachusetts), was held on December 3, 1990. Its title was Freedom Through Law: Pastoral Implications of Canon Law. Dupre later served as Bishop of Springfield from 1995 to 2004. On September 24, 2004, he became the first Catholic bishop ever to be indicted for sexual abuse. However, the Springfield district attorney's office was forced to drop the charges because the statute of limitations had run out.
