Phil's comments and analysis:
The recording itself here is not very good, and there is considerable distortion at times. This is likely an audience recording. I have carefully tried to rebalance treble and bass for a somewhat improved sound. However, the performance with Eric Dolphy accompanied by McCoy Tyner on piano, Reggie Workman on bass, and Mel Lewis on drums makes it worthwhile to give this a listen. The liner notes on the back of this particular issue misidentify the players. The performance seems to have taken place at Universitäts-Reitschule in Munich on December 1.
