A Working Definition of Wisdom

Wisdom is the absolute never changing knowledge of God. It existed before anything else and has remained pure. It grows in a person’s life with faithfulness leading to spiritual gifts. It opposes foolish behaviors and beliefs and encourages virtuous living and a close relationship with God. Wisdom and grace are both “manifold” – having parts that make them complex. Truth and grace combine to make wisdom. Wisdom is personified as a woman in the Old Testament and is personified again in the New Testament in the person of Jesus.

When I was a young Bible student, my grandfather taught me that wisdom is very important. He set me on a path to explore in the Bible, eventually leading to materials I put together in a book entitled Wisdom and Beyond.
