About
No Old Testament prophet saw Godâs plan more completely than Isaiah. As a counselor to King Uzziah, he was a participant in the upper echelon of earthly power. He observed the slow burn of corruption in Uzziahâs life â this good king had become arrogant and turned his back on God. After Uzziahâs death, Isaiah was disillusioned and sought the Lord for direction. He had a life-changing revelation of Godâs holiness and kingly authority. This revelation of God convicted Isaiah of his own shortcomings and enabled him to fulfill his true calling â as a Messianic prophet who would foretell the story of Jesus. With supernatural precision, Isaiah foretold the exact circumstances of the first advent. He described a virgin birth, a Spirit-anointed ministry that would bring deliverance, and a suffering Servant who would taste death for every person. In addition to his predictive prophecy of the Messiah, Isaiah clearly communicated Godâs plan to use Israel as a light to the nations. He challenged Godâs people to live holy lives in fulfillment of their calling as witnesses of their king to the Gentiles. Isaiah spoke to a nation in exile; encouraging them to live faithful lives in difficult times as they awaited a coming kingdom that was not of this world and that would last forever. In the same way, Godâs Word and Spirit continually urge Christians to be faithful to God as they live between his first and second coming. We should not put our hope in worldly political structures which are corrupt and destined to fail. Instead we should look forward to a new heaven and a new earth for we are receiving a kingdom that connot be shaken.
