About

These are two brief clips from the Friday, August 5, 2016, San Francisco community radio call-in program, Your Call hosted by Rose Aguilar. The guest is UC Berkeley journalism professor Mark Danner who recently wrote Spiral: Trapped in the Forever War. In the first clip, Danner responds to a caller by describing the relationship of the 2004 Madrid train bombings and the subsequent end of Spain's conservative government. Danner provocatively describes his foreboding that the 2016 US presidential election could be disrupted in a similar way. In the second clip, Danner praises President Barack Obama's forthrightness to the American people. He suggests that US foreign policy should take a "standoffish approach" to events in the Middle East. He advises the US to utilize surgical and limited violence in pursuit of fighting ISIL. These clips are provided for educational purposes. In particular, they illustrate a propensity of progressive alternative media to ultimately promote the pursuit of violence and war and to praise officials who represent financial and intelligence establishment interests and routinely lie about the aims and integrity of US foreign policy. They also suggest a propensity to fear-monger in service of status quo interests. These clips were taken from the final minutes of the August 5, 2016 KALW Your Call Radio Program.
