An ambitious artist from Chicago who frequently dabbles into electronic experiments, Circuit des Yeux is the main project of Haley Fohr, who's been touring lately with Alan Sparhawk - perhaps her very trendy and propulsive electronica influenced his projects a little? Anyway, three months ago I caught that tour at the Northcote Social Club, but didn't put this CdY tape out at the time because she was playing all new material and a bunch of it hadn't come out yet, so I couldn't get the tracklisting right. The album did come out in mid-March, a month after the show, so when I was working on some newly-recorded shows I felt like the time was right to revisit this one. I had a pretty good time watching it - it was just Fohr and her electronic setup on stage, and she spent a lot of time walking around the stage in some almost ritualistic pattern. Her voice is very impressive, of course; it reminded me of Anohni at times. The show was quieter than I thought when checking the recording back afterwards, so hopefully it's still all good for you.
