Hunting bobcats might be legal again in Illinois soon.

The state senate voted on a bill that'd dole out around 200 hunting permits between November and February.

Supporters say it'd keep the bobcat population down. Former Gov. Pat Quinn vetoed a similar bill when he was in office. His take was we should protect state wildlife.

Bobcats were taken off the state's threatened species list in 1999. Hunters say bobcats've made a comeback and're going after housecats and small farm animals.

The House has already approved a similar version of the bill, and it's headed back there to resolve language differences.
