The **Léner String Quartet** from Hungary was founded in 1918 by Jenö Léner (24.06.1894 - 29.11.1948) and existed in its original line-up until 1941.
From 1942 onwards they played in varying line-ups until Jenö Léner's death in 1948.
One of the most famous quartets in the period between the two world wars, in the romantic tradition.
The quartet began making recordings in 1922. It is the first string quartet to make complete recordings of all Beethoven's string quartets, a project begun in 1926, due to Beethoven's 100th death anniversary in 1927.
